It turned out to be ok. Had some friends of ours and a police officer take a look at our visa and stamps. He said no worries. We were on the bus from Dahab to Cairo on the 18th. We were told by a few people to just make a bigger stink if the checkpoint poeple make one first, and it will be fine.
No one even looked twice. I think our skin color was all they noticed, half the police at the checks didn't even open our passports, but the locals got a good 30-45 second inspection of each of their IDs.
At the airport the guy did a double take, hesitated a second, then passed to the next guy for the computer check. That guy got a text message that made him laugh, and he just handed us our passports and tickets without doing anything with them while he responded to the text.
Cel phones are a huge culture in Egypt. I saw beggar looking men squatting next to rubbish piles at night, with there face lit by the glow of a cell while the texted. I never got a good picture of it though.
