Can anyone reccommend a few nice Paris hotels? I am after something relatively close to the central part of the city (ie" close to museums/shops) I don't mind if it's really small, but I just want it to be clean and safe. Nothing overly fancy, prob 3 stars - just something comfy
The closer you are to the sites, the higher the price will be. If you stay out around the Périphérique, you can get something decent and clean at a reasonable price. We always stay here for about 44 Euro a night, although a colleague of mine heads to Paris every year and always stays at the Formule 1 chain. She says it's very basic with hardly an employee around (everything is automated), but it's only 50 Euro a night.
Good luck and enjoy!
Thanks for that - how far is that location from the City centre? And what's the best method of transport into the city?
Both are around the Périphérique, in different arrondissements. The maps are probably on the websites.
Best way around the city is the Metro!
A good (and very pretty) area of Paris to get a cheap and very clean hotel is Montmatre. A little way from the city centre - but not to far. It's a totally different aspect to what tourists expect, with musicians, street entertainers, artists and numerous bistros. A 20 minute bus ride will take you to Trocadero (Eiffel Tower).
