Has anyone used the treck pod? Its like a hiking stick but opens at the bottom like a tripod. I am planning a 3 month trip around Asia and looking for advice on equipment.

I don't have one personally, but my friend does - and we both gave it the works a few weeks ago. Handy little gadget and versatile.
Bit pricey though, I thought.

I narrowed mine down to:
Canon 350D
Canon 24-105L IS
Canon 10-22
3x4gb and 2x2gb memory cards, 2 batteries, small 30cm tripod, cable release, circular polariser, UV filter, CF card reader, lens hoods for the above
Canon 860IS compact
2x4gb memory cards, 2 batteries, 10cm tripod for the above
12" Laptop with 160gb HD and DVD writer (bought whilst travelling)
External 320gb HD (bought whilst travelling)

Worked well, on a 15 month trip it turns out about 50/50 usage of each. Wish I'd bought the laptop earlier, I got the external HD whilst with other people with laptops, when they went I found I needed my own! Good to have backups on the laptop and external and store them in different bags, and post DVD's home when you can.

Looking back I wish I'd had a longer lens for the SLR, I have a cheapo 75-300 at home which would have been useful but I thought it wouldn't be worth the weight penalty - wrong! Didn't need so many memory cards - 4gb ones take a while to fill and can be transferred to the laptop, would only bother with 2x4gb ones now unless I had something with more pixels. Could survive without the spare batteries but they were a godsend on the rare occasion when I did need them!
