paulc23 has indicated that this thread is about Thailand

Hi I am travelling to Thailand next week with 4 mates and would appreciate if anyone can give me advise of the following: -

1) What areas of Thailand / Malaysia do you advise taking Malaria tablets? We are travelling to Chang Mia to the North otherwise doing all the South areas

2) Are there any dodgy parts of Bangkok that you advise us to avoid?

3) What are the best islands to go to? I am aware of the party islands but if we just wanted to chill for a few days?

4) We are all carrying rucksacks, what kind of security do they have in hostels, is there alot of theft going on?

Ta

Paul

Hi Paul,

I was just looking at health advice stuff for myself- this website is quite good for what you need in different countries: http://www.fitfortravel.scot.nhs.uk/
Malaria medication is quite confusing because they recommend different drugs for different areas.

The Foreign Office recommend against all but essential travel to the far southern provinces of Pattani, Yala, Narathiwat and Songkhla (near to border with Malaysia) there has been quite a bit of trouble down there.

Unfortunatly I don't know that much about the interesting bits such as where the best places to chill are, so I will be keeping an eye on this thread as I'm heading off in the new year.

Next week is very soon- bet you're excited!!

Enjoy your travels!

The nurse at MASTA advised me to bring Doxycycline if i was planning to travel in the Thai/Myanmar or Thai/Laos border regions, to be honest I hate the idea of Malaria tablets, they sound like a right pain in the arse (a week before and 4 weeks after and all that) but the alternative isn't a bundle of fun either i'm sure. Thats mostly all i know. If you're worried, spend £15 on a Health Brief at www.masta.org or ask your Doc.
