Me and a friend are due to start our travels with a flight to Bangkok on Thursday. I've just seen the news and I have to say I'm a little uneasy about travelling there when it's in a state of emergency! Tanks roaming round the streets, people holding guns.... Should I be worried?

I don't know about "worried", but you should be concerned.

You'll get more insightful news from http://www.nationmultimedia.com/index.php, or http://www.bangkokpost.com/topstories

Keep up on the situation and act accordingly. If it's too chaotic in Bangkok, your airlines should allow a reschedule.

I would contact your embassy who will advise regarding your travels

Thailand is not China - I believe you have little to worry about other than inconvenience. I would personally be more concerned with the heat than with demonstrations. I would spend as little of your time in Bangkok as possible - I was just there, and disliked that city (it's beautiful, but extremely crowded and the air is pure hell - think SMOG!)

In my opinion, you don't have to be worried/concerned. Over the last years, there are these riots on regular times. Sometimes there are casualties, but tourists/westerners have never been targets.
So, pack your stuff and enjoy this fantastic country/region!!!
