hey guys, hope you can help..

I live in London, but I'm going to be in Los Angeles for 3 months this summer.

I was wondering where you think would be a good area to stay, which doesn't require too much driving. (I don't have a drivers license as I've never really needed to drive here in London.)

When I say "doesn't require too much driving", I just mean an area where there's shops nearby, cafes, etc.. enough things to do that is within walking distance of my apartment.

Where is good? Santa Monica? anywhere else?

thanks everyone.

I was going to suggest Santa Monica. Depends on what you need, really. What you're after. Hell, if you had simple needs, you could live in Tustin.

Santa Monica is your best bet though

LA without a car! - you're kidding?

LA IS CAR CITY #1

If I were you, I would quickly learn how to drive. LA is so spread out, you'll be spending most of that 3 months on the bus or waiting for the bus (very poor transit service in LA).

You can join Zipcar in London, practice a little, and then use Zipcar to get around S. California. Zipcars (car sharing) are in central London and in the Westwood/UCLA area of W. Los Angles.

I would say that anywhere in the W. Los Angeles area would be the best location for you, but even there you'll need a car! (W. LA communities include W. Hollywood, Westwood, Beverly Hills, Santa Monica, Venice and Marina Del Rey). You could also use a bike if you lived at the beach since there's a 17 mile long bike path from Santa Monica south past LAX all the way to Manhattan/Hermosa/Redondo beaches.
