I'm currently planning my trip to Argentina in October. Is it worth doing a day trip to Colonia from Buenos Aires? From what I've read it sounds like a nice place but I only have just over 2 weeks in Argentina so am not sure if I should spend a day going there.

Two weeks will only be enough to see selected bits of Argentina anyway. So, I suppose you could 'sacrifice' one day to go to Colonia. It's especially nice if you're into quaint colonial-style towns with very little action indeed.

However... going to La Plata or Tigre may be a better 'investment'.

It only takes an hour to get across the river to Colonia. I spent a month there over Christmas. It is a sleepy little town with only about eight square blocks of historical interest. I liked the place but I was looking for a quiet place to hole up.

My question is this: What will it cost in visas? I know that Argentina was about to implement a Reciprocation Fee for certain countries from any ingress. I think it was going to be 132 dollars. I have no idea if they have done something about this for Uruguay. Financially, for very little cultural payoff, it may not be worth it.
