Hi everyone. Me and a friend are doing a month around Europe. For the travel we have found this very cheap via Our itinanary is as follows:-

London to Brussels
Brussels to Amsterdam
Amsterdam to Berlin (flying with easyjet)
Berlin to Prague
Prauge to Vienna
Vienna to Budapest
Budapest to Zagreb
Zagreb to Venice
Venice to Milan
Milan to Zurich
Zurich to London

But we are struggling with the accomodation. Even the hostels are saying around £20 per night which is abit to much. We are going from 20th July to 17th Aug. We may just risk it and get out there and see what we can arrange when we are there, maybe even bring a tent with us.

I was just wondering if there are any deals or ideas anyone had or knew of? Any suggestions would be appreicated

You won't get accommodation for under €20 in western Europe in summer; even most municipal campsites that I know charge about that much (although that would be for a spot, not per person).

Zagreb and Budapest should be somewhat cheaper (not too much, though). But I think the best advice is to start saving now:)

Hi Lawrence_n

20 euro is indeed an average price in the western europe countries during high season. If you see something that is much cheaper you might still want to think about it twice because it could be a sign of it not being the best hostel ever..

I find Gomio a good website to search an book hostels, I think you should book some things in advance to avoid searching for a place to sleep all day instead of enjoying the city, you will not be the only one looking for a bed.

In Berlin I can advise hostel Lette ´m sleep. It quite close to the center. I spend some nights there and the rooms where very nice and the beds really comfortable.

You could also consider to check out couchsurfing where you stay ´on the couch´ in peoples homes. If you do that keep a close eye on your stuff because I have heard some stories about hosts who turned out not to be thrustworthy but mostly I hear good stories and it is supposed to be a very nice experience, you meet other people who know a lot about the city you are in and you can stay with them for free.

Last, you should check where you can take night-trains, this saves you a night of accommodation as well and it is really great to fall asleep in one city/country and wake up in another.

I hope this is useful, if you have more questions, just ask away!

£20 or €20 (no difference nowadays) a night is the best you're gonna get anywhere really. Even in Croatia and Hungary, the prices won't be much (if any!!) less.
Ever thought of camping?? Now that would work out a lot cheaper all round - and Europe has 1000's of campsites.
