Hello everyone, I have just retired 55 and love thailand, the people are great.
I usually take my daughter with me on my holidays , but she now has a partner so I have to go by myself.
Booking from australia is very expensive , has anyone booked direct and not used our travel agents.

Any help would be appreciated thank you:)

Thailand is very easy to do yourself. Despite the demonstrations and such, it is as safe as any country can be. Book a cheap flight with kayak, airninja, opodo, etc.

Internal flights, try airasia.

Use asiarooms if you want cheap accommodation.

Why pay a travel agent to do what you can do yourself?

Cheap flights should be easily available online, has should any hotel bookings you would like to make in advance.

Yep, went to Thailand last month and just booked things on my own.

For cheap flights check out AirAsia/Jetstar...also check Qantas/Thai Airways (I actually managed to get a Thai Airways flight for cheaper than the budget airlines). Google the airlines for their websites. Bangkok Airways(airlines?), One Two Go are the domestic carriers I've flown with.

Just remember you need a visa if you're staying over 30 days (arriving by air) OR if you arrive by land and are staying over 15 days.

See a travel doctor for the required jabs. http://www.who.int/ith/en/index.html may also give you some idea if you already have knowledge on it.

Just organise those things as well as 1-2 nights accomodation when you arrive and you're pretty much sweet!
