Will be in Lusaka September 30th 2009 making my way to Dar Es Salaam. Have looked at train and bus routes and schedules. AM I crazy to think I can get from A to B in 6 days? Trying to avoid a flight. The bus says it takes a few hours and the train from Kapiri Mposhi to Dar supposedly takes 3 days. AM I NUTS?

Do you mean a bus from Lusaka to Dar es Salaam is a few hours? I guess not, but just checking.
Probably the bus will take a few days as well.

no no no, bus to Kapiri Mposhi then that is where I would get on a train to Dar. From shedules and distances and the reading I have done it looks like I can do it in 4 days but I would plan for six as a buffer. Then I keep telling myself this is Africa so realize that schedules might be not as important and easy to keep as they are here in Canada.

i think its definitely doable. but it is be prepared in case things fall apart. also remember that you have a border crossing in the mix as well. be sure to have your correct papers, a good attitude and i believe you'll need your yellow fever cert as well.
