Thanks Kiwigail, the trip has actually changed a bit from when i first posted. We are going to miss Lahore considering the current climate. A shame because I have a good friend who lives there that I have not seen for several years. We will also be extending the time spent in India, Nepal and China. Also slightly longer in se asia and 2 weeks more in NZ and the US.
So US, 42 days approx. Estimating about 6000km. Works out 150km a day. But some days we will do 5 times that.
In Vietnam we are going to spend 30 days riding, so 30km a day average.
We were planning to hire one of these small car/campervan things. Which seem to be around the £500 mark for 6 weeks hire each. I was planning to not spend much money on campsites and instead stop in laybys and such. I thought this would not be a problem.
Obviously fuel costs for OZ will be a lot more significant than NZ but split 2 ways. I worked out there was a minimal difference in renting a campervan than the cost of a bus ticket/hostels. The fact we will both be over 25 has made a big difference, it is significantly more expensive if under.
The only times we will be driving are in OZ/NZ/US.
I know to get into Tibet you need to be on a planned group tour, which does seem to be over priced but not ridiculous. I would much rather do overland travel than fly. We have also added in Malaysia and Indonesia. I am not too sure about how easy or how long it takes to get around SE Asia overland.
I think we are actually going to scrap the rtw ticket and just get flights as we go, mainly because I am thinking of extending this trip over 1 year and the difference in costs seems very minimal.
