Travel Forums Europe Germany Schengen Visa -- Student Internship

I'm a student from West Bengal and have been given a chance to undergo a research internship for a period of two months in Germany. I'll be provided 650 Euros per month for the same by the university (have submitted a written document for it), which I guess would be sufficient for my stay there.

I initially thought that the Embassy wouldn't ask me for bank statements (as I'm being given stipend) but at the vfs they have. All other documents are in place. I'd be grateful if someone could give me an idea what should be the minimum balance in the account to be on the safe side, and is it wise to deposit money at this time?

They want to make sure of two things:

1. you'll return to your home country because you have enough money, you are not a penniless person who desperately wants to go to Europe to work

2. you have enough money that if you stay illegally in Germany after your 2 months are up you do not start selling drugs or robbing people

650 EUR are not a lot of money in Germany, this is just enough money to pay for rent, electricity, food and some other things you need for your internship.

If I was a visa officer at the German embassy I would want to see several thousand EUR in your bank account. Maybe they'll relent and say ok, you are a student, but around 1000 EUR will be the minimum. (To buy a flight ticket home from Germany.)

Thanks for the reply. So I infer it completely depends on the Embassy what do they think about it.

Thanks again!
