My 70-year old parents are spending a month in Edinburgh, then want to visit the west coast of Scotland for an additional 4 weeks. I found a great vacation apartment in Largs and a cottage in Newton Stewart and both are withing their budget. We need to decide pretty quickly which place we'll be booking. Does anyone have any insight into which would be more interesting for two elderly people who just want to enjoy beautiful scenery and visit historical sights? Largs or Newton Stewart?

Im from Dumfries in the southwest of Scotland. Not much happens in Newton Stewart and the scenary aint the best. I cant really speak for largs as i've only been as a child. Personally I would head further North to the Highlands. The scenery is exceptional and much more beautiful than the southwest. Check out Fort William or somewhere else close to Loch Lomand. Theres much more on offer in the north.

I would also suggest the Mull of Galloway, Portpatrick or Kirubright in the Southwest of Scotland. However, if it is your first time in Scotland, the highlands are beautiful.....
