I am an avid football fan, love it, was thinking of going to see some matches. In South America, which fixtures are ones that surely cannot be missed?
Excuse so many different new topics, but this site is clearly excellent for info, and people giving such good quality sought after advice you cannot read anywhere,
Seeing as you are starting in Buenos Aires, I would see if you could get tickets to see the Boca Juniors play. http://www.bocajuniors.com.ar/english/default.cfm. Not sure if they are playing in March (when I think you said you would be in B.A.), but I know they were playing in February when I was there. Does Futbol have seasons?
I saw Boca play in April and it was quite an event--especially for an american like me.
If youll be in Rio, checkout a club game at Maracana stadium--it's gigantic, loud and fun.
CAN´T miss River Plate vs Boca Juniors.
In Bs Aires in Dec/Jan Feb it is their summer so the season has tailed off. I was there last Dec/Jan and seem to remember Boca were in Japan winning yet another trophy!!!!
However, a friend who has stayed in Paraguay this last 9 months tells me (he was ill & housebound at the time!!) that he was able to watch 3 f/ball matches PER DAY on tv during those months. So they must be playing somewhere!!
In Paraguay it is incredibly easy to get into the matches at the stadium in Asuncion. I lived right next to it for a few months and several of my friends were regular attendies, especially to see the Olympia!
|I am really jealous
I got obsessed with SA foutball when I was in Brasil. Man their games are so much fun to watch!
I was lucky cos Copa America was on the South American tournament which came down to an Argentinian Brasil final, which anyone will tell you is a bitter rivalry thats exsisted for yonks! (well maybe not too bitter...)I was sad enought o buy not one but two newspapers when Brasil won and it wasn't even the main team it was the reserves, the others were off round the world playing in teams (some for Euro 2004)
Saw a game in the Maracana be careful you get teams high up in the Brazil league(like Santos, Sao Paolo, Juventude) , if you go though because theres games all the time that might not be too good to watch.
