Im heading to Thailand at the start of July for 2 weeks. Flying into Bangkok and planning on spending a couple of nights there before heading south. Going to take in the full moon party and spend a few nights in Ko Sumai. Unsure of where to head after.
Any suggestions on how to maximise my 2 weeks would be helpfull?
Koh Samui is pretty overdone now so you might want to leave early.
Khao Sok national Park is in the same province - Surat Thani - and well worth a visit.
stunning lakes and jungle scenery - with "karks" etc - lots of adventure type stuff to do too.
Based upon what you have already decided on, that uses up pretty much one week of your two weeks so far, so the choices are:
1/ do more of the same - Phuket, Krabi, Koh Lantra, Phi Phi Islands - all in the same area.
2/ head further north and visit Koh Chang, Koh Samet back to Bangkok then either fly, bus or train to Chiang Mai, 3-4 days up here being a reasonable amount of time to explore Northern Thailand, then back to Bangkok - and home !!.
Personally my suggestion would be no2 as that would give you a more interesting perspective of all the different aspects of Thai life, rather than just the "beach life". Chiang Mai is a very nice & friendly city full of old Thai culture.
It will be good to experience the South (beaches) and the North (mountain, hill-tribes, Lanna culture) perspective of Thailand.
Spend a couple of days by home staying with some Thai family to add value to your travels.
