Travel Forums Asia advice on a trip please

A friend and I are planning on a large trip covering Asia next year.

We're looking at approximately 6 months away.

Flying into Kuala Lumpur
Thailand
Cambodia
Vietnam
Laos
Back to Bangkok to fly to Hong Kong
China
Tibet
Nepal
India

Is this too much in 6 months? I would hope that SE Asia would take us a couple of months and not much longer.

Is it easy or difficult to go to India from China via Nepal?

sounds fine to me. we're doing all the south east asia stuff in 4 months so two months for india, tibet and nepal should be fine. i wouldn't do it in that order though...

maybe try Kuala Lumpur- thailand- Laos-back to thailand-cambodia-vietnam-southern china- hong kong- beijing-tibet- nepel-india. that way you're kinda up and across rather than back and forth.

Have a great trip!

You can probably do it but can you take 6 months off at one time? Make sure your passport has 6 months remaining by your last stop. Have you ever traveled overseas before? With little or no experience it might be better to just take smaller chunks at one time and save the rest for another time in the future.

One thing to do is read up on visa requirements ahead of time, some countries require extra photos. If and when you need hotel recommendations mention a dollar of particular currency amount - don't say cheap place or middle priced, etc. because these terms mean different things to different people.

Get your shots if necessary, plan now on how you will receive or have access to cash. You don't want to run around Asia with $20,000 in your pocket. In some of the countries you want to visit you can obtain cash from ATM's. If you use debit cards or credit cards you have to tell your bank or credit union where you will be or your withdrawal may be denied.

If you have never traveled in Asia before it might be a better idea to just take 2 or 3 months at first and do Thailand, Laos, Vietnam and Cambodia. You could start in Bangkok and travel overland for most of this travel if you want. Read up on currency requirements before you leave home too!

Good luck.

I was originally going to do it that way until I read that Chinese visas are a lot easier to obtain in HK than in Vietnam. Can anyone shed any light on that?

Also it actually seemed cheaper to fly to HK from Bangkok with Air Asia rather than train it from Hanoi.
