Ragensberg

Hi, My name is Emma im from Wales.

I am going to work for Siemens in Ragensberg in Germany for a month in the summer, from July the 4th.
As i will be travelling on my own, id like to make the most of my weekends off and go to visit areas, does anyone know of anywhere that is worth visiting? Or could tell me anything about Ragensberg itself?

I have been travelling around Europe before, but only managed to squeeze Berlin in when we pasted through Germany. I am thinking of staying in Brook Lane hostel, the only romo they have available is a 10bed room, which is going to be full of people but id like to meet new people. Does anyone have any other ideas of where i could stay?

I'm assuming you mean Regensburg?

It's a nice city itself, with a good city museum if I remember correctly. Nürnberg is not too far away; nice if you're into WW2-related history. München isn't far away either, and is good for a weekend. Finally, Linz in Austria is a 200-km journey away, and is definitely worth exploring.

Regensburg is rich in history because of its dominant position on the Danube - Roman legionary fortress through Sissi-related to modern day

The surrounding area is very scenic with forests, rivers, hills, national parkland etc. You will probably feel at home as you're from Wales

There is a large university scene with lots of young people around, though July might not be the best time of year for this aspect

As the previous poster suggested, there are also many other centers of interest not too far away. Prague is also within reach

I guarentee that you won't get bored in your month there

If you are going to be with Siemens check whether they can help you with accomodation. It could be worth it to kindly ask them to post a notice on the company's blackboard that you are looking for a room for a month. Regensburg is a university city, there should be many people renting out rooms to students. Maybe an employee of Siemens has a room that is free for the summer?

Alternatively you can try looking at http://www.wg-gesucht.de/ . It is a site that helps students find rooms in shared flats. Select Regensburg on the left drop down menue in the main frame, the one with the slightly pink background. Then on the next screen select min. Einzugsdatum: 01 Juli 2009 and max. Einzugsdatum: 01 Juli 2009 and Zwischenmiete: "egal". Don't feel shy to send messages in English through the website, just try to keep your messages simple. (my name is... i am from ... I want to rent a room from .... to ... can you help me please? thanks.)

Couchsurfing could also be an option.

For travelling around Regensburg use the train, I especially recommend making good use of the Bayern-Ticket. This ticket is valid for a whole day on regional trains throughout Bavaria, you can go to many places with it. Salzburg, Munich, Passau, ....
