getting from merida (yucatan) to puerto vallarta, mexico?

Hey all,

I'm flying to Cancun in August and heading down to Merida to volunteer. I want to go to Puerto Vallarta to volunteer as well and I'm wondering if anyone knows if there is a cheap way of getting there? Is flying the only option? It looks like a pretty big distance..

It's about 1200 miles as the crow flies.

If you wanted to bus it, expect it to take a couple days. 10 hours from Merida to Mexico City, and 20 hours from Mexico City to Puerto Vallarta. Check out this topic: on tripadvisor.

You can fly Cancun to Mazatlan with Mexicana airlines for $US188. See Mexicana Airways

This link will open Google Maps. Click the link to Mazatlan SIN Mexico in the menu on the left so that you can see where it lies in relation to Puerto Vallarta: Google Maps - Mazatlan The latter is south of there down the coast about 500km.

There's no airport at Mérida unfortunately. The main airport at Puerto Vallarta is Licenciado Gustavo Díaz Ordaz International Airport, but there are no flights from there to Cancun, so there isn't much choice I'm afraid.
