Im planning the long drive to Albania from England.

Go to Google Maps and then in the left hand menu at the top, click the "Get Directions" link. Then type in initial start point and final destination, click the "Get Directions" button and it'll map the route for you. ;)

Go via Germany, Austria and Italy. Catch a ferry from Italy to Croatia or Greece, then go to Albania from there.

Do not go via France (toll roads), watch out for the tolls in Austria (you'll have to buy the sticker in Germany at a petrol station) and use the ferry to relax. Might be more expensive than driving, but it can be worth it.

My suggestion would be to drive there via Austria, Slovenia, Croatia,Bosnia and Montenegro - then across into Albania. I've done it and the only thing to watch out for is the validity of your car insurance. Some countries will sting you hard at the border if you haven't got a Green Card extension on your insurance. In Serbia it is €125 minimum. Just check your route, your insurance cover and what the countries you're travelling to are now charging at the borders. There are two choices if you haven't got it.... Pay it and cross, or get turned round and sent back into the previous country.
A lovely trip ahead for sure.
