Blinq has indicated that this thread is about Thailand

Passengers arrriving at any Thai international airport from Mexico and the southern United States are to be monitored with thermal scanning equipment to try and detect infection with swine flu apparently. See: Thermal scanning at Thai airports

The country has also banned the import of pigs from the US.

I am not surprised about this type of detection. Some countries used this during the Bird Flu fears. Besides the thermal scanning devices I also was given a strip thermometer in Manila, the thing you hold against your forehead and the color change will indicate your temperature. In some places had you walk through a disinfectant too.

It is something we have to put up with when in the span of a couple days we can be on the other side of the world using air travel.

NO RISK FROM PORK
Thorough cooking of pork (like cooking chicken during the bird flu alerts) is supposed to prevent any infection from pork products.

"The WHO advises that the swine influenza virus is killed by cooking temperatures of 70 degrees Celsius, corresponding to the general guidance for preparing pork and other meat."

I really hope that the authorities could stop the spread of this disease!

Passengers arrriving ... from Mexico and the southern United States

Ironically, I have heard that New York has the highest incidence of the disease!

I have a friend that lives upstate and is supposed to go to Shanghai on a project. He is hoping that China does the same math as Thailand and figures the south is the problem.

Monitored? Yes, all you do is walk past a monitor..... not such a big deal..
Would you travel to a country at the moment that doesnt bother thermal scanning Mexicans?
Thailand is only doing a good job.
