I think $4,500 is too much, MartianTom. There is a couple of TourduCanada groups cycling on June 26. The reason I didn't sign on is because of the cost: $3,985 Cdn. + 120 admin fees, but there is truck support to carry all your gear. Also, I wanted to go at my own pace.
Ah, right... I only mentioned that figure 'cos you'd said that other guy spent $2700 over 8 weeks and you were looking at 3 months. Were you thinking more like around $900 - $1000 a month - say $25 - $30 a day? That comes out at around £17 in sterling. It's a couple of years since I was out there, but I seem to remember food prices being a little higher than here - though I live quite cheaply, rarely eat out (I prefer cooking my own grub!), and probably spend about $9 a day on food, on average. Are you thinking of rough camping most of the time, or using sites? Are you thinking of spending an occasional night in a guest house, too? Going at your own pace sounds good. I hate being rushed, too (visa restrictions notwithstanding!) - or having a strict itinerary.

Yes, as cheap as possible. If there is enough people, then rough camping will do, otherwise I'll stick to the organized sites.
