hi hutchy

melbourne rsc a little bit too far to go, especially as it'll be 9.30 pm ko here! there's an irish pub near the centre that shows setanta games, so might just have to go there. will need to check what their status is on wearing colours though!

it took me and my partner 5 weeks to get jobs. the recession is just starting here, so getting a job isn't easy, but it depend what you trade you are in. I would apply for jobs at COLES, MYER and Woolworths online before you go. Just put ur address as TBC. They take ages to process applications and you need to have more than one year on your visa at the time of application. Also, bear in mind that you have to get a tax number and a bank account pretty much straight away. Westpac banks only require a passport ID to open up an account- you don't even need an address. you can get your tax code at www.ato.gov.au. however, you'll need an address to send it to. Maybe your hotel/hostel you are due to stay in the 1st week would do?

I would look on the shared accomodation websites for properties or realestate.com.au. There are some nice suburbs outside central Melbourne which are well worth a look.

good luck!

ps. bring plenty of jumpers- its getting cold now!!

Worth a try - The Elephant and Wheelbarrow in St Kilda ( the pub where the neighbours nights are held) easy enought to get a tram to.

Urban Central will show it mate - they have setanta, but the atmosphere will be better if you can find a pub - would have thought elephant and wheelbarrow will be the best bet.
