Hey everyone!

I'm gonna be doing a summer camp programme for 3 months this summer in Roscoe New York then [in October] heading RTW for a year on my own. Needless to say I'm looking for a new camera. I'd obviously like the picture quality of a nice digital SLR but in all honesty, and as much as I want one, I don't think it would be practial with regard to size. There's a line though where I don't want to end up with a specific camera just because it's small -I'd like something in between, if you know what I mean

Can anyone give me some advice on which camera to buy, I need to get one before I fly on June 14.

Thanks in advance, I appreciate it!

edit: I've just seen this thread. Some good information there but if anyone else can advise...

Olympus F-130 compact. 7.1 mpix and awesomely good.
I am a keen photographer - have been for years. I still have my Canon EOS SLR roll film camera with 3 AF lenses, so I'm no beginner.
My friend has a Canon D-SLR that weighs 1/2 a ton and is huge. We have both been taking pics for a long time and compared usage and results the other week. No difference in picture quality, not even close-ups. Unless you want 10 frames a second - a compact will do you just fine. It'll fit in your shirt pocket. Just go for anything 6mpx or higher.

So far I am finding the Panasonic TZ6 OK, though I have not taken any night-time photos with it. I bought from a supplier on Amazon.
