An apartment usually works out cheaper if you're staying at least four weeks.

But which country do you have in mind and what sort of budget are we talking about?

I think it depends on the type of trip. For longer beach holidays, I definitely prefer an apartment or flat over a hotel. For a weekend travelling with just my wife, a hotel or hostel would be preferred although if the price is similar I'd probably end up with an apartment in that case too.

If you are travelling in Europe appartments can work out cheaper, because you can cook your own food.

Cooking your own food you can save plenty of money you'd otherwise spend at restaurants.

I like the freedom of a flat, if staying in one spot of a week or so, after a while I get sick off having to think about where I need to go for my next meal and of cause the money saving option is alway a good one Thereare some really nice ones out there these days

As long as you do a bit of research into it, an apartment should work out much cheaper - although you may have to clean up yourself.

I have done both - hundreds of times and sometimes one is better than the other. Overall though - I prefer my own gaff. It usually comes with 3 or 4 beds, so I can invite people or stay on my own - whichever I prefer.
It's quite handy to get friends round if it's your last night. They'll usually help you tidy up after a nice night.
