Hey there all!

Plans for a big trip early next year are pretty much coming together now, but there are still some loose ends. Like this one: I'm flying from South Africa into Perth, but need to be in Sydney. I've checked prices from buses and plains, but that's still quite expensive if you ask me. Of course it's the length of the continent, so it couldn't be for free... but does anybody know a cheap or easy way to get accross? Is there any trains running? Is hitchiking okay?

Thanks in advance (oh and I crossed the long distance peddelingboard of my list as well )

Niels

Niels,
There definitely is a train from Perth to Sydney, and you can get off at Alice Springs I think.
But I don't know about price - do a bit of surfing (the net, that is!).

Forget trains, they cost a fortune.

Try www.virginblue.com.au or www.jetstart.com.au

Hi Niels,

Have a look at www.gsr.com.au

They do good deal for 6 months unlimited travel on their 3 lines, Ghan(Adelaide - Alice Springs - Darwin), Overland (Melbourne - Adelaide), and Indian Pacific (Sydney - Adelaide - Perth) for AUS$490.
