Working in Australia - Work Visas?

Travel Forums Australia / New Zealand & The Pacific Working in Australia - Work Visas?

Hi,

I have started traveling, am currently in NZ, shortly going to Australia. I have, as always, had a bit of a shock looking at the bank balance and am going to have to do some form of work in Aus, fruitpicking I was thinking.
Can anyone tell me, is this cash--in-hand and thereofre do i not have to have a work visa? Can anyone say roughly how much fruitpicking would earn me?
Thanks very much, Sarah

Customs might get a bit suspicious and ask you a few questions like how long do you intend to stay in Australia and what is the purpose of your stay. They'll ask how much have you got in the bank. If they know that you intend to work in Australia illegally then they would deport you straight away without you ever getting through the gates. It all depends on whether you look suspicious or not and where your flight is coming from.

I've seen some scary stories from watching border security which is very informative.

You might want to look into getting a working holiday visa to Aussie just in case.

Simple bit of advice.... Risk the work without a permit if you like. Get caught and you'll be thrown out the country. They make no exceptions. Australian Customs are amongst the most unfriendliest and strictest in the world. If they don't like the look of you (for whatever reason they feel), you'll have a tough time.
Good luck.

Alright...thanks guys... I thought that maybe for the odd cash-in-hand job you may not need a work visa but I definately wont risk it in that case!
