I am visiting Thailand on the 24th july and will be returning 7th August. I will be satying at both the Dusit Thani Laguna resort and Phi Phi Island resort and would appreciate any advice on both destinations. Also I have heard mixed reports about the weather at this time and wondered if it would be hot and sunny enough to get a tan and sun bathe. Is the rain really as bad as some say or does it just add to the holiday experience when you encounter the odd tropical storm
Thanks;)

Thailand is in the tropics - at present the sun is pretty much overhead at midday - it is never far off - the result is that UV A/B rays have the minimum amount of atmosphere to pass through to sea level. this means that UV damage to your skin the process that releases melanin - will occur within 15 minutes.

I'm sure that between showers there will be longer periods of sunshine than this at least on some days - so wear a sunblock - UV can penetrate apparently grey skies too.

If you are regularly exposed to a lot of sun (i.e. sunbather) get your skin checked regularly for cancers

As for the temp expect 30 to 35 at day and high 20s most nights
