Hi,

You might get cheap flight with air asia but train is v.cheap, and can stop loads of places if you want,i did it 2 months ago, combination of sleeper and day trains, think it worked out about US 60,have a look at some of my previous posts for details

Because of the many airlines flying between: SIN-BKK, it may well be cheaper to fly than either the bus or train. I used to take the overnight bus: SIN to Hat Yai, eat, chase women and take another overnight bus to BKK. You arrive in BKK exhausted and sick of buses. I would check the Internet, chat with a travel shop and see just what is the current price to fly this route. Good luck with your planning.

You can even take a train from Singapore to KL, from there take a take a train to Penang (Butterworth train station.) From there you can take a train or bus to Hat Yai. From Hat Yai you can take a train, shared van/bus ride to Bangkok. This is a long way to get to Bangkok. You can compare the prices to purchasing a plane ticket from Singapore.

Taking the train you can stop in KL for a night. Stop in Penang for a night. Stop in Hat Yai for a night or continue on to Bangkok from there. Just another suggestion. (Singapore to KL to Butterworth will take at least 14 hours. Hat Yai to Bangkok another 14 or more hours. Trains are pretty cold so bring a light jacket.)

When you are in Singapore you can take the MRT to the train station (short walk to the RR station.) While there ask about prices and times. You can also visit a local travel agency in Singapore and ask about prices and special deals on air fares to BKK. They may also have prices and can get tickets for RR too!

Good luck.
