Travel Forums General Talk feeling crazy

Been thinking, is it mad to go to Paris from Australia just for 5 day so I can hang out with the girls for a weekend.
Mind you thinking about doing this next weekend.

What is that maddest trip you have taken on a whim?

You would be pretty tired as it would take you most of the holiday to recover from the jetlag. You only live once though, and if it's the only chance you get to see the girls then why not do something crazy!? Could you not take some more time out though and go for longer?

I realize the jet lag will hit ,but the ladies are only going for the weekend then one heads back to London the other to NY. I have been to Paris before and seen the sights so its really just to spend some time with my friend and have a girls weekend.

Maddest trip I ever did on a whim?? Certainly not Australia to Paris for 5 minutes (sorry - days!!).
I was given a couple of weeks off work at very short notice, so got a flight from London the same afternoon, to Corfu - then took the little ferry over to Albania for a couple of weeks. Mad - but lots of fun (another story, or should that be 'Epic'??)

Yes, it certainly is mad. That's why you should do it.

I had a coffee with a colleague the other day and I asked him what he did on the weekend. "Well, I went to San Fransisco for two nights". We work in Erskineville (Sydney).

If you have got the money and get a good airfare, go for it.

Superb. I had to do an emergency (very short notice) flight to Bulgaria from Manchester awhile back. No direct flights available. It was (don't hold your breath).... Manchester-London-Frankfurt-Vienna-Sofia-Varna. All different airlines. I can normally do the trip in about 8 hours, door to door. This took me all day to get out - and even longer coming back, as one of my connections (Frankfurt-Vienna) screwed up and I had to get an alternative onward. Again, usually I can do the flight for around £120 return. This cost me (I think) around £500. Looking back though, just another adventure. Oh and a great selection of different beers en-route to choose from!!

I love Paris, so I would say that any travel hell would be worth the travel heaven of being in Paris.

I can't say I have ever flown as far as Australia for such a short time, but, c'mon, Australia is REALLY far away. I did a weekend in Dublin from the East Coast of the USA once, and have travelled from Paris - Hong Kong overland in a 2.5 week period just caused it seemed like a cool thing to do...

I say go for it!

...assuming you can afford the airfare.

It would have to be the most convenient flight wouldn't it - for such a short period?? So no budget airlines. Therefore - very expensive - huh?? Unless anyone knows different.
Any takers on that one??

Thanks for all your words of encouragement but the Idea has been but on the scrap heap, Not that I was not willing to do it. but things change and with such a last minute whim this is sure to happen. So will work on the original plans the UK for 10 days in September for a wedding.
