Yunnan Tibet highway,

Hi,

We are three girls how will be visiting China this summer. We want to get to Tibet from Yunnan, but, as far as posible, not with plane. We've heard that there's a new highway Kunming - Lhasa. Is that true? there's any land cruisers or other transport services that we could take? how much the may cost? how about renting a car? is the highway in good conditions? how long does it take?

Any information would be great!!!!

there is no highway from Yunnan to Lhasa, only a naitonal road(Dianzang road) from Yunnan to Lhasa. And there limit for foreign guests to travel by road in China, i recommend that you go there by plane or by train, i guess you wanna see the byside scenary along the way , so you 'd better by train, that's a better choice. if you wanna go by train, just by train to Chengdu . then transfer to Lhasa. And there is also some limits for you to travel in Lhasa, you have to conduct a travel permit and you have to join a travel service and have clear itinerary. If in Lhasa, you have to hire a local guide then you can travel freely in Lhasa.
