I have and there is a reason I don't go there much. I remember asking a bunch of questions about travelling to Turkey as a muslim woman, specifically for spots were I could swim. (Either at a closed-off beach or at a public swimming pool that was sex-segregated.) Harmless and reasonable question, huh? Instead I got a lot of very angry replies (50+) calling me all sorts of names (whore was among the nicer ones)

Yep, the Turkish are a bit tetchy about the separation of religion and state.

You should take a closer look what an issue it is for a woman to wear a headscarf - the wifes of some politicians are never seen in public because they are not presentable, it is simply considered unseemly that they wear hijab. And women who wear headscarfes are not allowed to enter government buildings, including universities - so young religious muslim women from Turkey study in Germany or the Netherlands instead.

The Turks hanging out at TT read and write good English, they are from the cities along the west coast and they are mostly pro-Cemal Atatürk. They see Turkey as a modern European country that should be a member of the EU and Islam as backwards.

I knew that, but I was not prepared for the vitriol. To be fair, I had a few private messages with some regulars in the aftermath, they apologized for their initial reactions.

I for one ain't missing him. Found him rather offensive.

Bling is reinventing himself.
He would be back like Mariah Carey did, "The emanciapation of Bling Bling"

He will then be known as bLINK for two reasons:

1. He has posted a record breaking LINKS to millions of sites, 90% of which sounds like a marketing material.
2. He was gone in a bLINK of an eye.

I'd remember Blink, because he has religiously reminded me that my threads are always negative. Was he ever offensive, I can't trust my memory. But he was interesting. Coz I someone got that the impression that his main agenda is to promote the tourism industry of some countries.

One of his thread's was entittled, "MORE TROUBLE in Bangkok" or something... and it had a link... I think the subtext was "don't go to Thailand" and he responded to one Thread about the PHILIPPINES with a LINK that talks HOW BALI is a better option...

Nothing personnal. But do some members give you the impression that they are here PROMOTE, ADVOCATE, or advertise some places by trashing others directly or indirectly.

If BLINK is indeed a marketing guy or a civil servant, atleast HE WAS DISCREET. He does not insult our intelligence with threads that screams SPAMela Anderson!!!

You need to open your eyes Swept Away. If you think that was somehow promotional or whatever, you really have a strange view of it.
And yes: most of your posts are negative

Most of my post is negative... like you made an content analysis of the 500 post and analyzed the tone, the humor, and the motives. What do you hope to achieve by passing that judgement about my threads? What is negative to you is just a TOPIC to other members. It is neither positive or nefative and its not suppose to be about me. I respect the people's right to hate (I'm not saying that you hate me). But for those who do, you can send your thoughts to the mail box. I don't want blood spilled on my threads, because it will kill the discussion, which is the goal of some people.

The people who respond to the topic, won't even remember me as soon as they read the next thread. Not everyone lives online. They come here they see a topic, they respond and I read.

As for Bling, I am not insisting that my IMPRESSION of his thread is gospel truth. I need not be told to open my eyes, coz that implies the assumption that I am blind or stupid.

I actually felt sorry for Blinq in the end - although his constant link- posting and writing about things that he had no first hand knowledge about did get a little annoying, he was a good, articulate writer and a lot of his stuff was useful and interesting. It's a shame he seemed to take offence to things very easily.

I wonder who has the honor of offending Mr. bLINK?

He probably got a job now, in some travel agency in Bangkok.

I'm fairly sure Blinq wasn't trying to promote anything; his posts didn't fit the profile of someone on here purely for their own gain.

Well, he could be the new breed of what do you call those people? Those promoting tours in a travel forum? I just didn't really get his Thread on THAILAND BEING UNSAFE... it got my attention coz I thought it was about RIOTS and the politics...

It was about PIRACY and how the gov. was trying to crackdown on piracy. Then he provided a link. ITS NOT EVEN NEWS and why is a thread about Thailand being unsafe. Someone ditch logic out of the window. It was practically a black propaganda or a smear campaign against Thailand. What makes it worst, is bLINK had no MALICIOUS intention when he started that thread. So it was "senseless murder" if it succeeded in making some travellers think that Thailand is unsafe.

I say this, because that guy seem a bit smart, even if he kept trashing me. He was atleast entertaining.
