Iv done oz a couple of times but never worked over there - Im going to be hitting the job trail pretty much as soon as i get there - Im a PA/Secretary.. I can do pretty much anything tho... Any advice will be appreciated. Im not gonna be doing trips and stuff and will be looking for a flat share as soon as but initially in a hostel

Hi guys,

Really do not count on getting a job once you are here. My husband and I have over seven years office experience each and it still took over a month to get work in Sydney - I got one as a PA and he got his off Gumtree doing research. I heard it the same all over the country. Seriously not like we were going for interviews and not getting them - there are no jobs here at all! Nada. We registered with about twenty agencies and not one had any jobs on their books. We were willing to do anything - data entry, office dogsbody etc. Please do not rely on getting a job to live here as chances are you won't or it will take weeks. It got to the point if we didn't get one the week I did then we would have had to head home early.

Register with Geoffrey Nathan as they act as middle man and send your CV to recruitment consultants and help you with LAFHA allowance (living away from home) which means you get taxed less. Cos of them I got my job.

Sorry for the bad news.

Im looking into doing fruit picking as well as some office when I work my way round. Hopefully cos I have experience in bar/waitressing as well I may have a bit of an advantage and be able to turn my hand to anything - I have retail exp as well. Anyone in the same boat? x

Hi

I think if you look outside the square and are prepared to do anything, there is always work.

Perth for example has had a huge skills shortage. You may have to work at McDonalds, but the pay is probably at least $15 hr. There are heaps of labouring jobs/ temporary etc that pay around that.

The economy has had impact on advertised jobs everywhere....but that's life.

Fruit picking I know they definately can't get enough of them....I think in Donnybrook....3hrs south Perth. Even delivering suburban newspapers might be the go....no idea of what they pay (communitynews.com.au)

(I've never done any of this sortr of work, so I'm no authority...but it opens some options or ideas)

Thx
