The travel agents in Manchester still seem to be very busy (open seven days a week), but more and more people are trying to design their own trip. This has always been so much cheaper (for decades) than getting a package - unless you search for last minute deals. I've just seen an offer here in GB.... 7 days B&B in Minorca for £129. That's flight, transfer, room and brekky. Unbeatable.... Unless you know different.

MY HOSTELS ARE ALWAYS EMPTY...

I'm alone again, its been 6 different provinces. I check the other hostel and its price is 50 off and they said I get to have the 7 bed dorm all for myself. I would normally loved that. BUT TONIGHT I WANT A DRINK AND I CANT FIND THE BARS... I'm in a MAJOR TOURIST TOWN, and I cant get out of this theme park, coz I cant find some traveller who did some research.

Everyone is LOCAL in my hostel. Once I had a hotel full of extreme sports enthusiast, all of the members carry a BIBLE and they talk about Jesus like he is their boyfriend. They are not travellers, but lost souls on a dellusional mission to save the world from eternal damnation.

So I really believe that this whole economic thing is affecting travel.

Got back from Marrakesh a couple of months ago - £5 each way.
Going for a wander in the Pyrenees in two weeks - £1 each way.

No checked luggage. All carry-on. No fees. Well smug!

If you've done any, you'll know it's a bit of an art-form getting the best deal. Took me a few trips to get it right.

For the uninitiated, the essentials are to use an Electron card (no handling fee), carry-on luggage (no checked luggage fee), online check-in (no check-in fee) and print out the boarding pass in advance and go straight to customs (again, no check-in fee). You have to 'uncheck' a couple of things when booking online, but it's just a matter of keeping your wits about you.
I'm addicted.
