Hi,

I am travelling to Thailand at the end of July 2009. I am looking for accommodation in Bangkok for a few nights. I am travelling with my girlfriend so keen to stay in private double rooms. We are looking to spend around £16 (840 baht) per night. Can anyone suggest a hostel/hotel for around this mark? it would be helpful if amenities such as the MTR and sky train were in close proximity. Also any suggestions on places of interest would be gratefully appreciated.

Thanks, Owen :)

You can probably find something down along Khao San Rd for that rate. You can find other places but they are probably not going to be too clean or quiet etc... Google Khao san accomodations and you should be able to find something. This also will not be that close to the MRT or subway sytem. There is a place called Jim's Lodge in a quiet part off Sukhumvit Rd, on Soi Ruam Rudee, but that is going for about 1300 Baht, it's clean and nice, 5-8 minute walk from the MRT.
Good luck

No Skytrain stops in the Khao San Road area.

Many hotels in the price range you want do not have webpages. Some don't even have email addresses.

In the Sukhumvit area, on Sukhumvit Soi 4 is the HAPPY INN hotel. They have rooms with air starting at 600 baht. You can book a night with them with an email. I have used them a couple times. This place is around 8 minutes walk from the Nana Skytrain stop.
Here is the email address: (Removed - see message.) [i] This room had a large toilet/shower room, color TV and internet shop in the front office. Address is 20/1 Sukhumvit Road Soi 4, located between Nana Hotel and Ibis Hotel. You can use this map from the Nana Hotel link: http://www.bangkok.com/nana-hotel/#location From Sukhumvit Road you go up Soi 4, past the Nana Hotel and the Happy Inn will be on the same side of the Nana.

You can book 1 or 2 nights and from that location also check out some hotels on Sukhumvit Soi 11/1. Next to the Swiss Park Hotel, on a side soi (11/1) you will find the President Inn, Bangkok Inn and Business Inn. I think the President Inn is best, they have an internet connection, ignore the massage tables in front, it is mostly women tourists using them. You can get a better price than what is on the web page if you ask! http://www.hotelsguidethailand.com/home/fulldetail.php?l=en&code=6612
Suk 11 Hostel is around 2 minutes from the Swiss Park Hotel. http://www.suk11.com/apartment/

Good luck.

D&D Inn down Khao San Rd.
Khao San Palace.
Both have swimming pools on the roof. An essential in Bangkok!!
Have a good trip :-)

the two times i have been to thailand i have stayed in the first hotel on petchuburi road (something like that). Its clean and reasonably priced and it has a swimming pool on the roof which is a weird experience in the smog filled mess that is bangkok. id reccomend it as im going to stay there again when i go back in september. enjoy yourself!!!

I would definitely second D&D on khao san road. It has everything you will need including restaurant, swimming pool, bar, internet cafe - all on the roof Or Rambuttri Village Inn is just off Khao san on Soi Rambuttri and you could get private double rooms with Hot shower & tv for 800 baht last time I was here (about 18 months ago)and everything you need is right outside your door.

We have tended to stay in sukhimvit the past couple of times in Bangkok. If it's your first time in Bangkok I would definitely recommend staying a night in Khao san, but after that I think you venture more into the city when you stay outside the madness

I would suggest Sawasdee Sukumvit Inn. The rate is about 850 Baht and its near to Thonglor BTS Station...;)
