Hey,
Does anyone know of any good deals/comapanies/packages for travel insurance? I'm travelling to Australia in December for about a year and am not really sure about what i need. Any help would be appreciated. Cheers folks

Hi Fin,
The BMC was the best I found (British Mountaineering Council)
I can't remember, but you might have to be a member to take it out (although I doubt it somehow). Anyway, it was by far the cheapest and offered as good or better cover.
Check that the policy you choose cover what you want to do - for example, I had to make sure I was covered to ride a motorbike. A lot of companies don't cover that, and it only says so in the (extremely) small print.
If you're going to Oz, checki whether you're covered for surfing accidents! Seriously, this may or may not be included, but is one of the most likely 'sporting' accidents you could have out there.

Hey

I am looking into this myself as I am going to the land down under in January with a mate.

There are some good ideas on another thread on the Oz/NZ forum that are worth taking a look at. They suggest: www.insureandgo.com and www.backpackinsurance.com

hey anyone who's interested in this, i finally went with insure and go, gold backpacker package, no excess. cost me £202 but got a 5% discount for booking there and then when i rang them. seems ok. up to £3,000,000 medical costs, as long as i'm ok for any dental treatment i'm not bothered. some sports included, like surfing etc the not too dangerous adventure sports. they have 2 help lines for you to ring when making a claim. hopefully i wont have to do it though. plus you can spend 15% of your time in another country not specified in the insurance policy so i'm covered for thailand and singapore. all for a year but it can be extended up to 18months. hope this info is good for you. thanks for all your advice so far.cheers fin

Hey Fin,

I just thought I should prewarn you that when you are travelling to ask for and keep ALL receipts(hostel, bus, etc). A mate of mine was insured with Insure&Go and has warned me not to use them. A few of her personal belongings were stolen (money, mp3, ect)from the hostel where she was staying in. Later when she tried to make a claim they wanted proof that she was actually there. She didn't have any receipts of the places she stayed, so she didn't get any compensation.

I am not sure if this is the standard policy for all insurance companies, but it might be best to save all receipts when you are travelling.

Sorry I didn't get to you sooner, I only saw your post today. I am looking for travel insurance for my OZ holiday too!
