Hello

Will be in Sydney for xmas and new year (all of December actually). Can anyone recommend a good hostel to stay in? Ive been keeping an eye on the YHA website but cannot book anything for xmas until June

Also can anyone suggest what we can do on New Year's Eve? Would anyone recommend a boat trip? or are there any other hidden jewels that will make our New Years Eve a memorable experience?

Thanks

I stayed at Base backpackers in central Sydney and it was pretty good. I booked in the July for Christmas and new year and availability was tight by then. Most places should let you book now I would think.

It's memorable enough just to be on the harbour watching the fireworks if you haven't done it before, and a boat trip would probably be very expensive. Aim to get down there by midday to get a good spot so you can get a decent view of the fireworks. Anywhere near Mrs Macquarie's chair is a good option.

I stayed at YHA Railway Sq. it was really good fun, and a party hostel. Depends on what your looking for, Glebe is alright, but not 24hrs. Also, most things in Sydney (which is on the door step to Railway SQ) are 24hrs. Unlike the UK!!
