I am off to Australia in September for approx 6 months, iv been travelling before but never completely alone so little nervous. I will need to work when I get there so can anyone recommend any good places to get a job. I have quite a diverse range of experience however would probably like to work in hostels so i still get the chance to meet like minded people - any suggestions? I fly into Melbourne and then working my way up the east coast, then ill be flying to thailand for a month. Cant wait but its soooo scary ;-)
I have no idea...but I just left there and the economy looks like its heading down. Melbourne has a particularly slow economy and rising unemployment. Don't be downhearted, just keep this in mind. Have a look at job sites (www.seek.com.au) and others. Their economy was strong, but it is getting hammered now and who knows by end of the year...good thing is travellers will always travel, so hostel work might be good move!
I have no idea, just saw you had no replies, so thought I would give my two bobs worth!
I would check out www.seek.com.au for work opportunituies in Australia it is a huge site. For people willing to work hard there us always work in Australia. We do love the Irish and know you are are ard workers. Yes it is a bit competitive for work here at present but there is work.
Some of the big hostels in the main cities have their own in-house job agencies, which could be a useful starting point for you. I love Melbourne, spent about 3 months there myself a couple of years ago, it'll be a great city to start your Aussie adventure from I can recommend Greenhouse Backpackers. There's plenty of fruit picking and vineyard type work all around Aussie that you might like to consider. Smaller hostels will sometimes allow backpackers to do the cleaning in return for free accommodation there. Also, lots of people sit their RSA once they get to Aussie which allows them to work behin bars. Hopefully this'll give you a few ideas to get started on anyway ou'll have fun no matter what you end up doing!
