Hey I was just wondering if anyone new the best way to travel around the east coast, I was considering buying a bus pass which is £182 and last for upto 6months which I can use at any time and between Melbourne and Cairns. However if the local payments are cheaper I would prefer to do that. Is it relativly easy to get around?

Also if anyone has any pointers or tips for travelling it would be a great help

Thanx a lot
Emma

Hey i'm going travelling this year, and like you i'm travelling from Cairns to Melbourne. The 2 best ways to do it is hire a car, or go on the OZ experience buses which are hop on hop off buses, which is what i'm doing. I think if you book it in england its a bit cheaper especially if you book it with the company 'STA Travel' but there wont be much of a difference i don't think, we are just sorting it out when we are there, apparanlty its a really good way of travelling around, and the option most people take!

I don't know if you have thought much about what you want to do when your on the east coast - but some must do's are
Fraser Island - you can sleep on the island for either 3 or 5 nights and you get 4x4s to drive around etc
Whitsunday islands - which are stunning.
I'm not sure how much it is but with 'STA Travel' they do a package price on doing both the Whitsunday islands and Fraser Island, i think its about £300 but is def worth the money!
Also i heard Byron bay is brilliant.

Hope this has helped a bit!

When are u travelling?

Lauren

with fraser island and whitsundays you will get better deals in oz. packages down here are 161 pound $329 aus.
includes 2 nights 3 days self drive safari and whitsunday 2 nights 3 days.
oz experience will be also cheaper here.
when you package all in you save loads basic packages in oz is
2 day 1 night cape trib including accom
great barrier reef trip including lunch
4 nights accom cairns
2 days 2 nights whitsundays including food and accom
3 day 2 nights fraser island including food
2 nights rainbow beach
2 nights accom noosa
1 night brisbane accom
1 night surfers
2 nights byron
1 day trip to nimbin (byron bay)including lunch
2 nights sydney
1 blue mountains trip (sydney) including lunch
plus free stuff along the way.
that includes 19 nights accom so if you work out the average night accom at $25 aus per night by 19 it is $475 aus worth of accom.
so you get cape trib, nimbin ,blue mountains, fraser island ,whitsundays great barrier reef trip, for only $374 or 183 pound.
total price of that package is $849 aus or417 pound
then you just add on your oz experience or greyhound but with greyhound you can take it over night and save more money and it is half the price of oz experience but oz is fun i have done it good laugh.
hope this has been some help to you guys.

cheers stu live the dream :)
