Travellerspoint is taking a holiday this coming Monday.

Between 2AM GMT and 4AM GMT we will be moving our database across to a new server. It's a bazillion times faster and hopefully will solve a few timeout issues we have been having. The site will need to be down while this happens, so we can get a clean copy of all the data. Because the database is fairly sizeable, this can take a while to complete unfortunately. Hopefully we can copy it faster, but we're allowing 2 hours as a conservative estimate.

The time was picked because it is the slowest time of the day for the site and one of the slowest of the week. Mostly, people in Asia / Australia will notice this, since it's during the morning.

We are expecting Travellerspoint to come back very refreshed after that mini-break.

Here I thought you were going to say the Overlorads would be visiting Isa Manor to help celebrate the Memorial Day holiday... Alas, since that's not the case, I guess I can take all that beer out of the fridge now. (Need to make room for the potato and cucumber salads anyway.)

That's great news!

Will the server have anti-crowbar protection? I hope so.

Since the crowbar of destruction is mysteriously missing, I can only surmise that it is in your possession once again. Are you sure you really want that anti-crowbar protection????? (Just a thought...) Then again, maybe this just means that the crowbar will be able to strike at lightning speed... Mwahahahahahahahahahahaha!!!!!!!!!!

Okay, Isa guesses that she should return this thread it it's originally scheduled topic... ;)

That's 1pm-3pm here, so does that mean I'm actually going to have to do some work during that time?!

I understand perfectly what you are saying, imagine that this was actually 12 hours later on a Monday late during the afternoon here in the Netherlands, how would I be able to manage that day
Come one guys, do it on a Sunday;)

Are you doing any preparations already by the way? I noticed the travelguide is extremely slow today. Just clicking on articles or on 'all articles' takes ages

No preparations been made. Noticed a significant slowdown last night though (I guess the time you noticed the slowness). This is the kind of thing we're hoping to get rid of with the upgrade. The slowdowns are in large part the result of a growing database.

And we're back. Please let us know if you encounter any oddities. The move seemed to go pretty smoothly from our point of view. We've done a little testing before putting it back live, but found no issues.
