hey i am looking at travelling home for nz to england via america. i plan on staying there for 2 weeks staying in san francisco and new york. i am a 23 year old male with no criminal convictions what visa will i need and how will i go about getting it?

You need to complete the ESTA form online. I would link you through to it, but not sure of the exact location as I've never been able to access where it's apparently located.

The website quoted is a company where you have to pay.

If you go through the official ESTA website there is no charge. You can get to the ESTA pages via the US Customs & Border Protection website.

Also, if you plan to actually stop in the US for any time during your trip, you might need a visa.

If you're a NZ citizen, no probs...you're on the Visa Waiver program....so no visa needed...but ESTA yes.
