i am off on a RTW trip in Jan'05 which will last a year.
i will be travelling through and around S-E Asia (Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam Laos?, Cambodia? and China), Oz, New Zealand and South America (Peru, Chile, Bolivia, Argentina and Brazil).sounds like alot.
Any advice on anything to do with these places would be greatly recieved however big or small, significant or insignificant.
Also not just on the place and what to expect but about travelling itself, like how people find it and tips on what to and not to take, how people deal with money use of internet and stuff like that.
Despite the avalanche of advice you may get regarding such a long trip to so many places, as a world traveler I would simply say this;
Money; Sew a few bucks into the cuffs of your pants, keep your money belt on your skin around your waist and wear baggy enough clothes to hide any semblance of the belt.
Tips; I will hazard to say that you should not try to fill your head with "tips" of what people tell you here. Do you general planning but count on the advice and wisdom of travellers you meet at the your points of destination. Their advice will be far superior.
If you want word from me, it is do not trust anyone and listen to your guts. These days naivite will ruin more than you day.
If you feel free enough and courageous, your plans will change like the wind.
My 2 year trip changed my life. So will yours
Thanks for that.
Any other tips and what not is still appreciated.
Chers and happy travels
Just want to saya BIG well done on booking your year long trip-i bet you will have a ball!! i'm also after all the advice i can get!
yeh just dont be naive-coz it certainly will bugger you up good and proper! look after number one!
Are you going it alone? just out of interest!
one tip is to pack lite!
Get all your stuff together then take half of it out! You will pick up stuff along the way.
Nothing worse than having to lug a big heavy rucksack around! and you may end up leaving stuff anyway so better to leave it at home in the first place!
A heavy rucksack can be a killer!
Agreed, we all know planning the trip is great fun and relieves the boredom of the mundane while saving, but your plans will change with every country you go to. Each hostel you stay at will be full of advisors for the next stage of your trip.
