Couple of mates and i are headin to Christchurch Queenstown in mid August just wondering what to expect in terms of weather?? good for snowboarding?? and if this affects things like, bungy jumping, rafting, jet boating and others.

Can anyone recommend good spots for nightlife, and other things to see and do round this time of year i have a vague idea from wat i have read but would be good to hear from anyone who has been there. And is Queenstown expensive compared to Australia?

It will most liekylbe very cold with good snowboarding and skiing slopes.

I have a sky dive that can be done in Queenstown that i havent used for NZ if you want it at all? its a voucher, willing to sell for a reasonable offer as want it to get used and runs out at the end of August.

Let me know,

I went to Queenstown last year early September and found the snowboarding was pretty good so it will be great in August.

We were able to do all the extreme sports. We did all of what you want to do and more. They do say however that rafting in best in summer as there is heaps more water, but we found it to be okay.

A great place in Queenstown for nightlife is The World Bar (For a Teapot) right in the centre street. It's pretty ecclectic and the roof opens up some nights, but maybe not when your there as it's winter. Also try Minus 5 bar, it's a pricy entry fee @ $30 and you can only stay 1/2 hr at a time but you get 1 cocktail inc. and it's worth a look.

I would recommed a skiydive over Lake Wakatipu in Queenstown. I've done a few dives around the world and it was the most beautiful place to do it. Very Very Cold up at 15000ft though. Queentowns is VERY expenisve, I'm from Brisbane so used to high prices for drinks - food - rent etc but this place is exxy. My boyfirend and I were there for a week and spent about $3000 between us. Although we did skydive, bungee jump, jetboat, luge, rafting, helicopter ride, lots of drinks at night. But that didn't include any accomodationa as we had a campvan. Prepare to spend up big.

I didn't find Christchurch that great at all. It's just like being in any other capital city not that different from Australia. It also rained when we were in Christchurch so that made it a bit more miserable.

How are you planning to get from C/Church to Qnstwn? We had a campervan, and the drive was really beautiful, with plenty of places to stop and do day hikes along the way, if your after that sort of stuff.

I spent 6 months in Queenstown one winter and it's fab. You will definitely be able to do some boarding etc. If you have a bit of spare change maybe go heli-boarding? Well worth it for amazing powder and just general awesome-ness. you should still be able to do jet-boating etc. because it rarely snows in Queenstown itself, just up the peaks.

It's farily pricy there, being a tourist destination and all...dont think I could manage to spend $3000 in a week though (good going SalFrog!). You can save a bit of money if you drive up to the peaks yourself, or if you don't have a car then you can easily hitch up there. Ask about for directions to the pick up points, it's very organised, lines of skiers and boarders waiting for lifts from strangers. Fab. Obviously you have to be careful hitching with strangers though...

Oh, and you can also get a free 3 course meal on a Friday night from the church (or you could in 2005 anyway). everyone is welcome. There is no religious aspect to this, just a way of community building. Lovely.

I would also recommend Fergburgers for a post drinking burger, ridiculously good food there.

So jealous, it is a beautiful part of the world. Have fun!

Thanks for the Feedback,

Was a bit worried that i wouldnt be able to do all the bungy, skydrive and boating being winter but sounds like everything is year round, awersome, dunno about the heli-boarding would be awersome but this trip being the first time i have ever attempted to snow board might have to wait till next time. Looks like i might be loading up the credit card a bit am going 4 a total of 9 nights in Qnstwn so i reakon with Accomodation i could prob spend end up spending more that i had planned. Ah well.

How are you planning to get from C/Church to Qnstwn? We had a campervan, and the drive was really beautiful, with plenty of places to stop and do day hikes along the way, if your after that sort of stuff.

Flying from Christchurch to Qnstwn, was thinking about renting a car but opted to fly so i could spend more time in Qnstwn. Would have probably worked out just as cheap to hire a car 4 a week than to fly between the 3 of us but just wanna get to Queenstown asap.

Not really to sure about Christchurch i dont know nething about wat is there or wat to do we are only there 4 3 nights hopefully i wont get bored and wish that i had gone straight to Qnstwn.

There is 3 of us so i am not sure how we would go hitch hiking but could be worth a shot to save a bit of money!

Thanks again.
