I am looking for a cheap hotel in Bangkok but with good quality. Can anyone advise please? Looking to pay £15 ish per night as on a budget.

Also can anyone tell me about Ko San Road? Whats the fuss about.

I'm staying around the khao san road area in september I've looked at quite a few places and from what I can gather these two look the best :

This one is just of khao san road it's meant to be quite popular with backpackers, clean, friendly, good food and pretty quiet in the nights and just a short walk to all the action. I'll probably end up getting a single room with fan in new siam 1 for 280bht, new siam 1 is the cheaper of the three hotels.

This one looks pretty fun too but there's been some mixed reviews, I'm torn between the two and can't quite make my mind up.

I'm hoping to book a place before I arrive so there's less hassle, I'm not gonna book for another month or two so unless something else comes up that looks better I'll be staying at one of those two. When you leaving? I could always let you know what I thought if you're staying there after september the 16th?

That sounds great mate. I am going on my own at that time travelling for 1 year around SEA, and Australasia.

What about you? What are your plans? Whera are you going after Bangkok. Would be nice to chat to someone else going at the same time?

Joel

Yeah cool,

I'm heading out solo september the 16th from london to bangkok staying there for three nights, Gonna see The islands down south for three weeks, then head north to Chiang Mai then into Laos for two weeks. After that I'm heading to Bali for 3/4 months, then Australia for three months, NZ for two months, Fiji for two weeks then California for a month. Can't wait to be honest but getting a little nervous. What dates are you flying?

Murf.

That sounds ace mate. Bali is amazing. Wonderful place. Went a few years ago.

My plan is to go to Bangkok for 3 days, go to the Southern Islands for 3 weeks (full moon party) then upto either Bangkok again or Chiang Mai. The onto Loas for about two weeks, Cambodia for the same and onto Vietnam for 1 month. Then Oz for ? months and New Zealand for ? months. I reckon i will work in Oz for a while to save cash for many drinking sessions. Although Cambodia/Loas/Vietnam may change.

How much is it costing you? WHo are you going with? and how much extra is it to go to Bali? Never thought of it but if it was cheap would love to add it into my plans. The Balineese are the most amazing people.

Saving up now for it. Working 9-5 but to be honest do no work at all and am just planning for my trip.

Sweet man, Sounds good.

It cost me £1500 pounds for London>Bangkok>Bali>Oz>Nz>Fiji>LA And I went with travel nation. The reason I went with them was because STA couldn't do bangkok to Bali, they said it was impossible with their RTW flights and they said i'd need to travel to singapore then onto bali, then bali back to singapore then onto Oz, that ended up being an extra flight so they quoted me a much higher price than travel nation. I've managed to Save enough for my flight and 10.5k spending money so I'm hopeing I won't have to work, I'll have a credit card too just in-case.

I'm big into my surfing so I had to get a flight to bali, gonna stay there as long as I can too, never been but it's meant to be an amazing place, and it's cheap, I'll be going in the rainy season though but at least it'll be quieter.

Thats sounds quality mate. Trust me, Bali is amazing. Thats a good package. Honestly mate, you will want to spend all your time in Bali. I went when i was 16 and loved it, cant imagine what it would be like now.

Mine was £1080 to go on a baisc Bangkok, Perth, Auckland, then India. Really wanted to do India last as its cheap.

I am taking 5-6k plus a credit card just incase, but i figure that working is what i need to do in OZ. Staying at a mates aunts house for few weeks so will save cash and get to know the place there.

I am shit at organizing so its loads of effort for me, but loving it. Working out routes and prices for travel and accomodation.

Got 4 months to prepare as you do but getting all sorted now so no panic at the end.

Excellent.

I've always wanted to visit India too but decided against it this time, I'm going to get there before my time has passed. I've Got a few Indian/British friends and they say it's an amazing place to visit so maybe I'll head out with them one day.

yeah we've got plenty of time to organise, I'm not sure if I should over plan things to the very last detail or just turn up in Bangkok with money, clothes, passport and visa. I think I'll plan the first stop quite heavily so I know I'll be able to settle into the lifestyle comfortably then fluke the rest.

I've still got loads to do though, just having my injections at the moment and they're confusing enough!

Aaaaaagh. I have forgot about the injections. How far ahead have you got have them? and what are you having mate?

I am the same as you, I think planning Thailand in detail is a good idea and then fluke the rest. Meeting people along the way will be easy and they will help. Booking hotels up early is a must i reckon.
