Laptop in SE Asia

Travel Forums Travel Gear Laptop in SE Asia

I have my laptop with me here in Malaysia because I was going to teach English in Thailand but decided on traveling instead (a long story). This is the first stop of a 3 month trip that will take me through Malaysia, Indonesia, The Philippines, and Japan.

My question to anyone with an opinion on the subject is this: Keep the laptop or ship it home?

If I have it here already it might prove a little (or very) useful but I'm still debating if its worth its weight. If I had planned a 3-month trip from home I wouldn't have brought it but now I have to consider the risks involved in sending it back...

What do you think?

Thank you!
Leo

You could send it back insured, so no risk involved. Depends whether you think you will use it enough to make it worthwhile. It would also depend if it is a large, heavy laptop or a small lightweight notebook. Nobody else's opinion really matters, it's down to you. I will be taking my notebook on my year long trip.

You should bring your laptop it couldn't hurt, Especially if you're going to three month trip, then it is necessary to have a laptop first.Because it is too expensive to go to the net cafe in others country.:)

I'd go with Post#2#.... Get it shipped back home. I mean if you're out there for quite awhile, the cheapest postage would do - wouldn't it?? It'll take forever to arrive, but then you're not going to be home for ages anyway.
You won't miss it.
