For Berlin try the Meininger Hotel and Hostel at Hallesches Ufer or at Tempelhofer Ufer. |

This system (stay with a family and pay them for it) doesn't exist in Europe. The closest things to it are staying at a pension or couchsurfing. I think you'll want to stay at a pension. http://www.berlin.de/tourismus/unterkunft/pensionen/ [ Edit: Edited on 06-Jun-2009, at 19:15 by t_maia ] |

With a budget of €150 a day, you've no worries at all. A cheap room will be around €30 - €40 a night and for something (as you describe as 'Decent') a little more classy - not really necessary, expect to pay around €65. The rest of the cash is yours to enjoy. If you're good with money - then after a couple of days, you'll have so much surplus to enjoy on even more things. You're on your way to a nice trip, for sure. |

I'd suggest (only cos you're coming in from India) Vienna. It just feels more practical to do Vienna, Berlin, Barcelona and finally London - in that order. Plus there are flights from New Delhi direct and non-stop to Vienna with Austrian Airlines. Otherwise, I'd struggle to recommend an absolutely correct route. Lufthansa from India to Germany have more flights than Austrian into Austria, but it would mean you going back on yourself. |
