I've just diverted my adsense revenue to the TP Foundation. What a brilliant idea, can't believe I glossed over it before!

There isn't any way of reallocating your existing adsense $ to it is there?

ROB!!! I LOVE YOU!!!!!!! Thank you for your contributions!!!!!!!!!!! Guess this means you're willing to have your name mentioned in the blog...

Sam was looking into this situation. He had some funds he wanted to transfer also, but I haven't heard if he's found a way to do it or not. If it can't be done through Adsense, I do have a possible option that might work without exchange rates eating into the contribution. It would require putting your earnings, prior to changing the Adsense ID number, on hold for the moment.

I'm off to have some dinner presently, but let me double check that my option will work and I will send you a PM as it requires using the Foundation's PayPal account. Again, it's hypothetical as of this minute, but I think it will work... I'm also hungry and hot roast beef sandwiches are calling my name.

Thanks for posting this thread too!!!! I just asked, in the Foundation blog, for members to think of ways to entice more people to join - I think you just made my case. ;)

Could it stay as a thread here at the off topic site like the book, movie, postcard and Sam's ? in red with the red dot?
sure I'm not the only one who is not often looking if there is something new at the
Blogs.
The TP Foundation is a great Idea,a shame if it get no more attention because of the
information placement.
or maybe TP-Foundation info could be at the left side where Blogs,Travel Help...so it would be seen always and hopefully attract more members to joyn.
just my 2 cents,
TP Gr....;)

A Sticky is a great idea. This thread here, or perhaps the one here? Actually, I see that one was posted to the Wiki forum, which is definitely the reason not more people have noticed it. Perhaps it should be moved, and then stickied? Or we do it with this one, and add in a post with a bit more background :)

I think both threads should be stickied. (Mainly because not a lot of people check the Wiki Forum as often as they do Off Topic.) So, with that, I have quoted Eric's introductory post from here. Also, more information can be found in the Wiki Foundation article.

There are 3 blog entries - the first explaining the Foundation, the second explaining the donation timeline and the third calling out for participants (without violating anyone's T&Cs). Hey, I've tried to making them entertaining... Quick note - as of right this minute - we're $7.00 shy of our first $100.00 goal. (WOOHOO!!!!!!)

Hello all,

We're very excited today to announce the Travellerspoint Foundation, and the Give Us Your Money Good Will All Around The World Project. That lovely title comes courtesy of Gretchen (aka Isadora), who has been putting in a ton of work setting up the Foundation and working out all the little bits and pieces. Thanks Gretchen!

But, the project... Basically, it works like this:

  • You donate the Adsense earnings you earn through Travellerspoint to the Travellerspoint foundation
  • The TP Foundation will use that money for loans to Kiva entrepreneurs.
  • Repaid loans plus all the new deposits will be "recycled" into new loans.

In case you've never heard of Kiva, it's an organization that allows individuals and groups to make small loans to entrepreneurs in the developing world. It's an amazing, empowering organization, so we're really excited to make loans to people for whom that little bit of start-up capital can make a huge difference. I'd encourage you to check out Kiva's website for more information about them.

Now, the place to keep track of all the latest news about this is the Travellerspoint Foundation blog. Gretchen's first post is up there, explaining in more detail how this whole thing works.

If you want to dive straight in and switch your Adsense earnings over the TP foundation, here's how you do so:

  • Go to your profile page.
  • At the very bottom of the page, where you can put in your Adsense Publisher ID (note: this is only available to members who have achieved Full Member status), put in the TP foundation ID: 1326685919872860

Cheers,
Eric

Just about 6:00 this morning (my time, of course), I logged onto the Kiva site to look at the most recent loans made by the TP Team members. In the process, I noticed their Kiva Launches in the U.S.! sidebar announcement. Being the curious person that I am, I clicked on the "Learn More" link and then the "View all US entrepreneurs" link. Living in the US, I was pleased to see that our little corner of the world was now also a part of Kiva's funding network and went about my morning chores. I was listening to Good Morning America (ABC) as I went about my business and they mentioned micro-financing, which immediately caught my attention. Kiva's President - Premal Shah - was announcing the launch of the US program and explaining how Kiva's financing works.

What really impressed me, and I have watched this happen on Kiva previously, is the small amount of time it takes for an entrepreneur to become fully funded. At 6:00am, one entrepreneur had 19% of her funding - she was asking for $6500. Just during that 5 minute GMA segment, she received the remaining 81% to fulfill her request.

Just so everyone is on the same page... The original plan for the Foundation was to contribute to a pool of entrepreneurs that the Kiva TP Team members had contributed to recently. Basically, work from a limited pool of recipients. We thought we'd make it simple. Silly us!! Again, having watched the speed of the loan process, it was decided that the Foundation would be choosing their own set of entrepreneurs.

Last, but surely not least, we're $1.32 short of our benchmark for release of funds. Okay, there will be the audit and bank transfer times before the first loans - but we're almost there. I'm excited! I've been working on this since February! I want us to make some loans! I'm done ranting! Really!

I have bad news...

Yesterday, over in the Foundation thread in the Wiki Forum, I said:

Just 87¢ and Friday, there will be free drinks all night long down in the TP Martini Lounge. Just follow the dungeon stairs - can't miss it. We'll even try to have live music for the occasion.

I'm afraid the TP Martini Lounge will not be opening this evening. We still need 67¢, which I would take out of my coin purse if I could. Sadly, I can not add it in. So, with any luck, the Martini Lounge will be open for business Saturday evening, offering free drinks all night long. Again, after you have made your clicks, just follow the dungeon stairs and the sound of live music. (Yup, but not telling who will be performing. Show up to find out.)

I lied! I'm sorry - but it's true. I'll try not to let it happen again...

AS OF RIGHT THIS MINUTE - WE HAVE $101.76 IN THE ACCOUNT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I have released the funds for audit. Now, the amount will change slightly over the next ~9 hours (my time) but I doubt very much it will drop below $100.00. Regardless, the TP MARTINI LOUNGE IS OPEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

THANK YOU EVERYONE WHO HAS CLICKED AND CLICKED AND CONTRIBUTED AND CONTRIBUTED AND CLICKED SOME MORE!!!!
You have made Isa (aka Foundation) a very happy camper!!!!!!!!!!

Okay, once again, just follow the dungeon stairs and music! Our special musical guest for this evening is none other than Joe Walsh!!!!! Who's up for some Rocky Mountain Way? (Ya know, he'd written a better song if he'd known it was going to be so popular...)
