Email to blog drafts, rather than posting

Travel Forums System Talk Email to blog drafts, rather than posting

Hey guys,

I know email to TP blog is possible. I've used it and like it very much. :)

I'd like to send an email to my blog here with photo and text included and have it go straight into drafts (not published). That way when I get the time to edit it properly I can log in and schedule them etc.

Is this possible?

Oh, one other thing. With emailing in Photo's. Am I right in saying the name of the photo is what's used as the caption on the blog? Just wondering if there's any change since Sam updated the photo caption insertion areas of blog posting.

Thanks!

Umm... I think it's not possible. Instead of doing that, you can save it as a draft of your email. All mailboxes, be it webmail type or the email client software, support saving your email as a draft. :)

Hien's suggestion does kind of make sense. Your local inbox is probably not a bad place to store a draft.

If that doesn't sound quite right for you, what would be a way of alerting us to the fact that it is a draft? A setting in the blog? Or prepending "Draft:" onto your subject? Either could of course be possible, but would need to be coded to make them work.

you can save it as a draft of your email.

Fair Point. Actually that's the reason I first started a blog on TP I wasn't getting far with saving emails. Biggest issue was me Aside from that I like to go into a post and edit it a little before posting. With email to blog it goes out straight away.

And, I don't always have access to internet. So when I do, I like to schedule them, with email to blog - if I had 5 emails in draft and sent them, 5 posts would all appear at once. Which I don't want.

Or prepending "Draft:" onto your subject

Now that's what I was thinking. One could email in an entry and in the subject field write "(draft) A day in where ever" And then email it in. It would sit in drafts until you get the time to log in and make changes. e.g. name the photo etc.

I use thunderbird portable when traveling due to public computers, bandwidth etc. At night I'm putting together email posts with a single photo. And, am starting to put together a project for my TP blog that an email to draft would work well with.

But having said that, it's not a huge thing. So unless it's a huge coding headache, it can go on the back burner. I'll copy to word or openoffice and paste in and upload whenever possible. Just wish there weren't so many cak cyber cafes that don't have java or flash broken!!!

Ok, try it out..

Add "Draft:" at the start of your subject and it should save that email as a draft instead. Ensure the colon is there and spelling is correct, etc.. since it's looking for an exact match. I made sure the colon was required, since otherwise it might accidentally be triggered.. I think it's safe to assume it's intentional with this string.

Wow! Worked perfectly. I now have a new project on TP! Many many thanks!

BTW I seem to remember an old post about image placing using email to blog - but can't find the link.

Do you know the code I need to insert in the email to put the image where I want it, in this case above the main body of text?

Likewise How to give the image a caption when emailing it in?

This is the thread you want on placing images:

Captioning isn't possible through email at the moment.

That's the one alright! Thanks. Got it working just fine, now I must just remember [ img] :)

Have to say it's 100% easier blogging by email on TP than on WP.org.

Well done, and thanks again!

Well, that's nice to know! WP is certainly tough competition ;)

Seriously WP make it painful. Same principle, get private email address. You then send it a mail. I think there's something about no images allowed (but there's a plugin available that then makes this possible)

The real pain is you then need to go to an authorization style link to approve it, before it's excepted. Which kinda defeats the idea of emailing in a post!

wordpress.com is similar to TP. But .org makes it hard as heck.

So yes its a major plus to TP!

Thanks again
