A TRAIN FROM MEMMINGEN TO BUDAPEST??

Hey everyone,

I'm wondering if someone can help me out with finding a train from Memmingen to Budapest this August?

I'm heading over to Budapest for a week to Sziget and the cheapest flights from Dublin to Budapest are about €300.

I'm planning to fly to Memmingen and perhaps get a train from there but I can't seem to get a price range. Does anyone know how much a return train ticket would be?

Bahn.de has Europe specials for 39 € one way from Munich to Budapest.
That does not include the journey from Memmingen to Munich which would cost another € 20.
That's roughly around 60 € one way, you might be even able to get a cheaper return ticket from Budapest.

Look into flying to Berlin from Dublin, easyjet flies from Berlin to Budapest for 29 EUR one-way.

It is true that there is a 39 EUR one-way special to Budapest from Munich, but a similar special also exists for 49 EUR - this would be any city in Germany to Budapest. I know this because I just returned from Budapest, I got this special from my hometown to Budapest via Berlin.

Another option would be to fly into Bratislava from Dublin, Bratislava to Budapest would be around 25 EUR one-way by train.

Do you know if I have to reserve a seat in a night train going from Memmingen or Munich to Budapest?
I was hoping to just buy a train ticket when i get there I don't know if it will be more expensive?

If you just show up at the train station in Munich and then try to buy the ticket for the night train to Budapest you'll pay full fare. This is around 120 EUR plus the fee for reserving a seat or couchette. I also do not know how far in advance you have to reserve, could be anything from between 1 hour and 1 day before departure.
