My girl friend and I are planning a camping trip but thought we would try to use the forum first to see if you guys have any good sugestions for camping in Georgia. We are also interested in possibly going outside of Georgia to any of the surrounding states (i.e. Tenn., N. Carolina, S. Carolina, Florida, Etc.). This would be for tent camping by the way. Backpacking or Car camping works (for this trip car camping would be preferrable). We are all ears!
I would suggest either Lake Lanier or Helen. Helen is just a cute little town in extreme North Georgia. Lake Lanier has the lake (obviously), a water park, golf....Of course if you go to Helen, you'll be closer to Tennessee and you could go check out Chattanooga, Tennessee, which is also a nice area. Good luck and have fun!
The North Georgia Mountains are the area of greatest interest to me at this stage of my life!
My wife and I are planning a trip in the early fall that will include the towns of Dahlonega, Ellijay and West to Interstate 75. Camping areas along the way include Amicalola Falls State Park which is the southernmost terminus of the Appalachian Trail. Amicalola Falls is the highest waterfall in the State of Georgia. Farther West is Carters Lake with camping and Fort Mountain State Park with hiking and biking trails, horseback riding, swimming and cottages along with camping.
We visited Helen, Georgia two years ago. It is a very relaxing and fun place designed like a Bavarian Village. Helen boasts "the Worlds longest Oktoberfest" and there are many scenic and recreational areas surrounding Helen.
No question, the entire Northern Georgia vicinity, including nearby North Carolina and Tennessee is a vast campers paradise!
The North Ga mountains are great. Definitely make a trip into North Carolina to ashville and the Biltmore Estate. And dont forget the south, Okefenokee swam and from Savannah south to Femandina Beach, has great camping spots
I worked at a summer camp in the Blue Ridge mountains last summer, it was a really nice area right up the top of GA, close to North Carolina
Fort Mountain State park in the North Geogia Mountains is good for views and hiking. Many of the Georgia State Parks are a little to "Country Club" for me. I mean....Golf Courses.
There are so many great camping places on the Blue Ridge Parkway in North Carolina and in Northern South Carolina.
I like the quiet of Keo-wee Toxaway State Park South Carolina which is in the general area.
