Accomodations in Dubai

Travel Forums Africa and The Middle East Accomodations in Dubai

YSAKURAI1 has indicated that this thread is about United Arab Emirates

I'm planning a RTW trip, and will be stopping by Dubai between 11 Aug and 13 Aug.
Since I will be travelling alone so, I am looking for a nice guesthouse or hostel over any (very) nice hotel, which seems to be the norm in this city.

Does any one have any recommendations on where to stay?
being near the city center is a plus.

Thanks in advance!

Chris

I asked the very same question in a similar forum to TP, a place where there are people who actually live in Dubai. The answer is that there aren't any hostels in Dubai.

There are a few rough places where migrant workers sleep, but no hostels aimed at tourists. The cheapest place to stay would be a 3-star hotel for 90 USD per night. Couchsurfing seems to be the only option for a cheap stay in Dubai. Due to the laws in Dubai you can only couchsurf with members of the same sex.

The situation is similar all over the UAE. Only Qatar has an HI hostel.

I stayed in the Dubai youth hostel close to the airport at Al Nahda road (it is north of the airport and quite far from the city centre but there is a linebus which will quickly take you there). A double room was (in 2003) 30 US dollar per night with aircon. There are also dormbeds but I don't know the prices.

Damn, I wish I had known this last November when I looked at flights to Dubai for 180 EUR return. :(

I also stayed at the Dubai Youth Hostel for 3 nights, part of the YHA network. It's clean and good value, and breakfast is included. When I was there the manager was a Mr Ahmed, who was very helpful and friendly and could arrange tour bookings for guests. It's in a convenient position for the airport and is also near a big supermarket if you want to save some money and not eat out.

Thanks for the information! and sorry for the late reply.
So I guess its either nicer hotels or the YHA huh?
I'll keep you posted on my decision.
